BillBox is designed with your privacy as a core principle. This policy explains how the app handles your data.
Data Collection
BillBox does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. All bill information, payment history, settings, and preferences are stored exclusively on your device using a local database. No bill data is sent to any server, cloud service, or third party. The only exception is anonymous crash reports, described below.
Network Usage
The only network activity in BillBox is communication with Google Play for in-app purchase verification (BillBox Pro upgrade). No user data is included in these requests. BillBox does not use analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
Crash Reporting
BillBox uses Firebase Crashlytics to detect and fix crashes. If the app crashes, a report is automatically sent that includes your device model, Android version, app version, and what went wrong in the code. This helps us find and fix bugs faster. Crash reports do not include your name, bills, payment history, PIN, or any personal information you enter into the app. Reports are sent to Google's Firebase servers and handled under Google's privacy policy. No data is collected while the app is running normally — only when a crash occurs.
Permissions
BillBox requests the following permissions, each used solely for the stated purpose:
- • Microphone — Voice-assisted bill entry (speech-to-text processing happens on-device)
- • Notifications — Bill reminder alerts
- • Exact Alarms — Precise scheduling of bill reminders
- • Storage (legacy devices) — Exporting CSV/PDF/JSON files to Downloads
Data Storage
All data is stored locally in a SQLite database protected by Android's application sandbox and Android DataStore on your device. BillBox has no cloud sync, no account system, and no remote database. If you uninstall the app or clear its data, all information is permanently deleted.
Backup & Restore
Backups are saved as JSON files to your device's Downloads folder. These files never leave your device unless you manually share them. Auto-backups occur every 7 days and are stored locally.
PIN Security
If you enable PIN lock, your PIN and security answer are hashed using PBKDF2 with a random salt before storage. Plain-text PINs are never stored. PIN data is excluded from JSON backups.
Children's Privacy
BillBox is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of BillBox after changes constitutes acceptance.
